Sherman Powell: Powerful interests shouldn’t be allowed to take away Pennsylvanians’ property rights

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review published Sherman Powell's op-ed.

He writes, "I’m a U.S. Army veteran who served two combat deployments to Iraq with the 3rd Infantry Division, in 2003 and 2005. I’m also a small business owner and a resident of Pennsylvania.

I have always believed that one of the government’s most important responsibilities is protecting its citizens’ property — not taking it away.

That is why I am deeply troubled by efforts to rush through a measure in the General Assembly that would retroactively strip away property rights that families — including my own — have owned and passed down to our children for generations.

This is not just about our family. It is about whether property rights that are enshrined in Pennsylvania law actually mean what they say — or if our rights can be eliminated by powerful interests after they lose in court."
